Objects of Remembrance: An index of the Sentimental
Objects of Remembrance: An index of the Sentimental explores the physical objects we assign sentimental value. Items once held by a loved one let us feel close to them - even without their physical presence. This series seeks to explore grief through examining objects that are sentimental to me. This project features heirlooms and objects from my mother, grandmother and beyond. In the future I wish to grow this project to include the collections of others.
Mum (2022) - Framed Gold Horse Tapestry. For years I thought this was somewhat hideous. I was close to taking it to the tip this year. When I inspected it closer and considered it's life and origins I imagine maybe it was a gift to mum in the 80s/90s by a Greek relative. I appreciate it now. But it sat ready to be thrown for ages. My aunt has just called to inform me this was a gift from Bali and indeed not what I thought...
Mum (2022) - Greek Orthodox ashtray and candle holder.
Mum (2022) - mums jewellery collection.
Mum (2022) - Icing decorations for orthodox Koliva
Mum (2022) - Noteboard. Straight from the desk in her office before it turned into mine.
Mum (2022) - Small framed photos of her brother, sister and friends.
Mum (2022) - mums everyday items.
Mum (2022) - strong box and associated items. I think the idea of the strong box was always more interesting than what was inside. It was always where the most important things went. The thing we were always told to get if there was a fire.
Yiayia (2022) - collection of images and clippings collected for me, returned to me.
Mum (2022) - various school pictures.
Mum (2022) - contents of mums wallet.

Mum (2022) - Contact sheet and negatives of mum and dads wedding.
Mum (2022) - mums virus laden laptop.
Mum (2022) - door chime I gave mum for mothers day in year 3. Purchased from the Huonville Primary school mothers day stall for $6. Bargain.
T.W McMaster (2022) - horse racing notebook. Great-great-grandfather Thomas William McMaster (1855-1930) lived in country Victoria. I was told if my great grandfather didn't piss him off we'd be rich.
Yiayia (2022) - Yiayia's research papers.
Mum (2020) - Letters and postcards my Yiayia's kept of mum writing home over the years.
Mum (2022) - 43 handwritten diaries.
