Australian Marriage Equality (2015-2017)

Having just moved to Melbourne and finding my voice, I stumbled across activist organisation Equal Love. Over the course of 3 years attending and photographing their rallies and meetings, I watched as the crowds grew larder and the voices louder. In 2017 the Turnbull Liberal government announced the postal-plebiscite at the tune of $157m. Every Australian was asked to cast a post vote on whether marriage quality should be passed into law.

This photo project was unexpected, and when first shooting I had no idea the gravity these images would later hold. This was one of a few things that prompted me to study photography - with my first year at RMIT ending just over the road from where we would hear the Australian Bureau of Statistics announce the results would result in marriage equality being enacted into law.
